Attachment: Explanation of yellow system and brown convention

1. The yellow system - a highly non-functional system, refers to a system that complies with any of the following:

(1) A pass in the opening position, indicating at least the usual first-order opening strength, even though it may include weak hands. A weak hand is a hand with a high point below average. Average hand strength refers to a hand with 10 high points and no hand value.

(2) A first-order opening bid can be weaker than a no-bid.

(3) The first-order opening bid can be one king lower than the average hand strength.

(4) A first-order opening bid indicates that a particular suit is a long suit or a short suit. A long set means three or more, and a short set means two or less.

(5) A first-order opening bid indicates that a particular suit or another suit is a long suit.

Second, the brown convention is called:

(1) The following conventions are called brown conventions:

1. Any opening bid of 2 clubs to 3 spades indicates a possible weak hand, and the weak hand does not explicitly specify at least four cards of a known suit. (Note: An opening bid of 2 clubs to 3 spades whose all weak hand situations represent at least 4 cards in a known suit, and whose strong hand situations show at least one king more than average hand strength is not a brown convention.)

However, the following openings are not brown conventions: a 2-level minor opening, indicating a weak 2 opening in any major, with or without a strong option (16 high-card points or more). At this point, the opponent can consult the defensive measures prepared in writing during the game.

2. An overcall to a natural first-order single-suit opening without explicitly specifying at least four cards of a known suit.

However, the following overcalls are not brown conventions: natural no-trump overcalls; cuebids showing a strong hand, which refers to a hand with a high card point higher than average strength by at least one king; jump cuebids of known suits required by the opponent Partner bids 3NT with a stopper in that suit.

3. Any 2nd or 3rd weaker two-suit bid may have only three cards or less in one suit.

4. The psychological call of system protection or system requirements. A call that occurs frequently enough for the bidder's partner to know that there may be a significant distortion, is a call based on an agreement between partners and is not a psychological call.

(2) Athletes who use the brown convention call must indicate brown in the system classification column.

(3) Conventional overcalls against forcing artificial openings, brown or yellow systems are not brown conventional bids.

(iv) No opening bids that may be lower than the 8-card point and that are not further described.
