8-year old Anshul Bhatt wins prestigious Joan Gerard Youth Award

Eight-year-old Mumbai resident Anshul Bhatt has won the prestigious Joan Gerard Youth Awards at the World Youth Open Bridge Championships.

Anshul is the youngest winner in the history of the award. The kids category is for players under the age of 16.
The Joan Gerard Youth Awards aims at rewarding aptitude, fair play, good sportsmanship and a friendly international spirit, rejecting any discrimination. They will be presented every year at the Youth Bridge Teams Championships and at the World Youth Open Bridge Championships.

The award was announced at the 5th World Youth Bridge Championships held at Lyon, France in August 2017, where 78 teams and 192 pairs from 29 different countries.

Anshul represented India in both the teams and pairs event.

The World Bridge Federation also chose Anshul as the flag bearer and for the oath-taking to open the 5th World Youth Championship held at Lyon, France, who was also the youngest ever participant.
