In the 4*14 boards finals played yesterday for RUIA Gold Trophy, FORMIDABLES (Sunit Chokshi, Keyzad Anklesaria, Kiran Nadar, Bachiraju Satyanarayan, Jaggy Shivdasani, Rajeshwar Tiwari) had the better of SHREE CEMENT (Ravi Goenka, AK Sinha, Subhash Gupta, Sapan Desai) beating them by 17 IMPs. Thus FORMIDABLES, the reigning champions of 2016 have retained the RUIA Gold Trophy.
FORMIDABLES started with a carryover of 4.33 IMPs and consolidated their position by winning the first set comfortably by 21 IMPs. However SHREE CEMENT came back strongly in the 2nd set and wiped out all their losses by winning the set by a huge margin of 44 IMPs. But FORMIDABLES are not just like that called the top team of India. They fought back like wounded tigers and won the 3rd set by 45 IMPs to regain the lead. Now it was a wait & watch last set and no body was ready to give an inch. Formidables finally won the 4th set by 7 IMPs to win the match by a margin of 17 IMPs (146.33-129) and win the Ruia Gold Trophy.
