Friday is the Summer Solstice, where the sun stays out for 16 hours of the day.
To recognize the longest day of the year, the American Contract Bridge League hosts a nation-wide bridge tournament in honor of the Alzheimer's Association.
In Charlottesville, the Jefferson Bride Association (JBA) is holding a tournament at the Cavalier Inn from 6 am until the sun goes down at 10 p.m.
"While we are experiencing one day that's the longest day, for alzheimer patients and their caregivers everyday is the longest day," says Nan Massie from the JBA. "The Jefferson Bridge Association, we are playing bridge all day but the real goal of the day is to raise money for the cure."
The JBA is encouraging people to come out and support the Alzheimer's Association. If you are not a member of the bridge club, it is free to play. They are also offering classes for people who want to learn the game of bridge.
