Om Chockriwala of Sherman Oaks placed first in the MacNab Grand National Teams Flight C event at the North American Bridge Championships (NABC) that concluded August 11 in Atlanta. The tournament is one of three sponsored annually by the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL).
Sherman Oaks Resident Wins National Bridge Title
Om Chockriwala of Sherman Oaks placed first in the MacNab Grand National Teams Flight C event at the North American Bridge Championships (NABC) that concluded August 11 in Atlanta. The tournament is one of three sponsored annually by the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL).
Californians Fred Upton of Van Nuys, Yichi Zhang of Pasadena, Nolan Chang and Jack Chang of San Gabriel were also members of the winning team. The victory is the first NABC title for all team members.
The Grand National Teams is contested over the course of several months at local levels with all 25 ACBL districts participating. The NABC event is restricted to teams that qualified in their local ACBL district and is composed of four flights: Championship, A, B and C. Masterpoint (the metric equivalent of accomplishment in bridge) restrictions on players are placed at 5,000 for Flight A, 2,000 for Flight B, and 500 or non-Life Master for Flight C.
