On the afternoon of July 10, 2017, the Polish World Federation of Bridge Federation Special Grand Masters, world champions Jacek Kalita and Michal Nowosadzki visited the High School Affiliated High School and exchanged ideas with more than 70 students from many Beijing schools.
At 5.30 pm, the exchange activities officially began. The National People's Congress Bridge School was filled with seats, and the students participating in the activity were enthusiastic and looking forward to the world championship. When Arthur and Michal entered the bridge classroom, the audience warmly applauded. The two world champions greeted everyone in Chinese and expressed their great pleasure in meeting and communicating with the students.
After a brief personal introduction, two world champions shared their own bridge experience. Michal also shared three snacks: First of all, to maintain good health during the competition. Second, learn to face failure. Finally, we must pay attention to the relationship with our peers and teammates. Just like the bridge name “Bridge”, peers also need a bridge connecting each other.
In the questioning session, the students enthusiastically spoke, and many of them directly asked questions in English. The questions cover all aspects, including the partnership relationship of bridges, the teaching and learning of bridges, the upgrading of licensing techniques, and specific bridge technical issues. In the answer, Arthur and Michal re-emphasized the importance of the relationship between the partners, thinking that the bridge is not a single player after all. Finding the right partner is very important for the top players. If you want to advance to a high level player, sometimes finding the right one is more effective than simply improving your skill level. Of course, there will definitely be differences in opinions between partners, and disputes are normal. For the partner's style, they think they are more radical. They think that if one person is particularly aggressive in the partner, the other person should not be radical with it, otherwise there will be many appointments that will be called high. For the same player, the game must be consistent in style, and it must not be conservative for a while.
The teaching and learning of bridges is also a topic of concern to teachers and classmates. The two world champions believe that according to their personal experience, the ten-year-old and eleven-year-old are the best ages to start learning. However, the most important thing is not the specific age, but whether it is interested in the bridge.
They believe that the most effective way to improve a player's skill is not the same at the different stages of a bridge. For young bridge beginners, they should allow them enough time to play cards and participate in the competition. In addition, try to challenge opponents who are better than you, on the one hand, to learn from them during the game; on the other hand, once you defeat them, you will also increase your confidence. As for themselves, Michal said that after the game they will hold card tables, recall bids and play cards, see what mistakes they made, and avoid committing the same mistakes.
The two world champions also talked about personal views on the recent bridge hot topics. On the issue of cheating on the bridge, they supported the crackdown on bridge cheating and the purification of the bridge environment, and believed that the penalty for banned players for cheating should be punished. With regard to the prospect of artificial intelligence in the bridge sport, they think that bridges are more complex than chess; players can only obtain a part of information at the table, and chess has displayed all the information on the board. In addition, there are psychological and emotional factors in the bridge game, such as the use of psychological calling and fraud. Currently, artificial intelligence cannot handle these factors properly. If artificial intelligence cannot overcome this problem, humans can still defeat artificial intelligence on the bridge.
During the event, Yuan Fangqing, the captain of the National People's University's attached middle school bridge team, presented Arthur and Michal with the team uniforms of the National People's Congress and the National People's University High School Affiliated School.
At the end of the event, all teachers and students participating in the event took photos with two world champions. After the event, the students invited two world champions to take pictures and sign their names. The students expressed that they liked the activities of today and learned a lot from it; this activity will infuse their bridge life and they will continue to adhere to the bridge hobbies, hone their skills and improve their skills.
Jiang Yan teacher presided over this event. Sun Qian served as a live translator.
Arthur and Michal were short-lived gaps between the two matches of the second stop of the Yeh's Cup and the National Bridge A-class club. The National High School Affiliated Bridge Team invited the National People's Congress to come to the National High School Attached Middle School to communicate with the students. The event was also part of the 2017 Beijing Baxi branch of the China Sports Lottery Bridge Summer Camp. It also conducted an online live broadcast.
