Hackett & Taylor, and Murphy team, win at Northern Midweek Congress

The Northern Midweek Congress saw its highest entry for five years, with Harrogate the venue for three days of weekday bridge.

The two-day Championship Pairs was won by Justin Hackett & Martin Taylor who finished with 60.00%, only narrowly ahead of the defending champions, Graham Osborne & Philip Wood, who scored 59.86%. Tom Cohen & Alan Jarvis completed the podium with 58.96%.

The Swiss Teams competition was won by the team of Pearl Murphy, Val Gibson, Martin Kane & Bill March (picture here). They finished with 99 VPs from their seven matches, 5 VPs ahead of Liz Commins, David Stevenson, Tim Chanter & Helen Wildsmith. The Solomon and Carpenter teams tied for third with 92 VPs.
