The squad captained by John Diamond is out of the Vanderbilt Knockout Teams after being trounced by the Paul Fireman squad. Diamond was the lone high seed to be ousted on Wednesday. The event is now in the round of 16.
Diamond was playing four-handed with Brian Platnick, Eric Greco and Geoff Hampson. Fireman took the opening set 43-9 and built on the lead throughout the match, winning 176-72. Fireman’s team is Gavin Wolpert, John Kranyak, Vince Demuy, John Hurd and Joel Wooldridge.
The rest of the action on Wednesday went more or less according to form, top seed Monaco dispatching the Barry Rigal team 167-123, No. 2 Nick Nickell defeating Bryan Maksymetz 195-132 and No. 4 Martin Fleisher knocking Janet De Botton out of the event 161-127.
