In the very first two hands the teams exchanged 1 IMPs for each side. The third board produced the real first difference of 6 IMPs for Poland.

After two pass, South opened his hand with a 1Heart Suitbid, Sheber overbid 1Spade Suit, North doubled and Thorpe jumped to 3Heart Suit showing his 4 cards support and inviting to game, and his partner closed the game. The board ended one down.

At the other table E/W ended in a spade part-score that gave Poland 6 IMPs.

Next difference was in Board 16

At the other table Austria tried 3NT with no success, paying two down…that cost them 5 IMPs.
