  • 2nd European Winter Championships Winners

    In the 2nd European Winter Championships, Zimmermann achieved a dramatic comeback in the fourth quarter of the Winter Transnational Championship final to defeat Zip and retain the title. The BAM Trophy winners were Rubenstein (gold), Turnips (silver), and de Botton (bronze). The BAM B Final was won by Poland U16, followed by Bridge Magique and Presidents Waldsolms.   • Meeting of the EBL Development Group in Paris

    In January 30 - 31, 2025, the EBL Development Group met in Paris at the French Bridge Federation's invitation. Set up in 2024 in Dubrovnik during the NBO Seminar by the Dutch and French Federations, its aim is to boost bridge development. Three working groups on knowledge sharing, youth bridge education, and branding & marketing were established. French experiences in promoting bridge among youth, Milan Macura’s Bridge Academy and other projects were presented. The next meeting will be in Poznan at the Polish Bridge Union's invitation during the European Transnational Championships.

  • Fees in EBL events

    The EBL introduced changes in entry fees policy and structure to encourage participation in EBL transnational championships, aiming to promote local and less - experienced players' involvement and make European championships a festivity. In Poznań, fees are set per player, allowing flexible team or pair selection. Standard and discounted fees are set for non - titled players and those registered in Poland in Polish - only teams or pairs. The EBL hopes to see everyone at its events.

    The 2nd edition of the Winter Transnational Championships concludes today after days of intense competition in Prague, attracting bridge enthusiasts globally and being a resounding success. Milan Macura was awarded the EBL plaque for his contribution. The 3rd edition could return to Prague in February 2026. EBL President Eric Laurant, Treasurer Igor Chalupec, and organizer Milan Macura had an interview reflecting on the event. Laurant said it was a great success with 88 teams. There was fruitful cooperation with Macura. Chalupec said participant feedback was positive, and challenges were quickly solved. A key improvement was a fee discount for amateur players. They're still discussing how to define "amateur" and introduced a distinction between "titled" and "non - titled" players. Macura was pleased with the preparation and hopes to host again. Laurant is open to returning to Prague if conditions are met, with provisional 2026 dates between February 9th and 19th. Chalupec is excited about the 11th European Transnational Championships in Poznan, Poland next June, expecting a large turnout and offering a discount to amateurs.
